  1. 1. The sentence “We’d prefer staying at home today” talks about a specific preference.
True, because “would” refers to a specific preference, instead, for general preferences we use “do”.

    • Thank you Cami! Sorry your answer is imprecise. It is not just “would”. It is “would prefer” which makes the sentence talk about specific preferences.

The sentence “Ryan would rather going home” is incorrect because always after would rather goes a base form verb, which means that the sentence will be correctly written like:
    Ryan would rather go home.

  5. “Juanita would prefer talking than being quiet”
False, because when you use “would prefer” or “prefer” you write “to”, instead of “than”.

Is incorrect because when you are going yo compare with ” than” , you hace yo use verbs in thir base form.
So in this case we are using gerunds, so we need to use ” to”

    • No exactly Lauris 😦

It is not the use of gerunds and infinitives which determines if you use “to” or “than”; it is as explained by Camila Morales and Ulloa!

    2. The sentence “Ryan would rather going home” is incorrect.

It is incorrect because after “would rather” we use the base form of the verb.
In this case would be “Rayan would rather go home”.

This statement “Angela would rather fly by Avianca to fly by AA.” It’s false because when we use “would rather” or “rather” we have to use “Than” not “To”.

  13. True, Because for talking with specific we have to use verb phrase, would phrase and also after that it is a gerund or infinitives. so it is true

The sentence “I’d prefer having a sandwich” can also be expressed “I’d prefer a sandwich”.
Correct. Because when we use prefer, we can use a Gerund, a Infinitive or a noun, and in this case we are using a infinitive and a noun, so it is correct.

    • Good try Lucciana, but you have to tell what is being used in the sentence. Besides you would say:

It is correct because with “prefer”, we use gerunds, infinitives or nouns.

    3. The sentence “I’d prefer having a sandwich” can also be expressed “I’d prefer a sandwich”.
True, since the sentence “I’d prefer having a sandwich” can be expressed as “I’d prefer a sandwich” or “I’d rather have a sandwich” because they are all grammatically correct and express the same preference on a sandwich.

    • Thank you Natis! Why are they grammatically correct?

All these sentences are grammatically correct since both “I’d prefer having a sandwich” and “I’d prefer a sandwich” are expressing preference with “would have” either with a gerund or a noun, which is the correct use of “would prefer”, and “I’d rather have a sandwich” is also grammatically correct since its using the base form of the verb “to have” with “would rather” which still is the correct use of “would rather”, and is still expressing preference on a sandwich.

    3. The sentence “I’d prefer having a sandwich” can also be expressed “I’d prefer a sandwich”.
TRUE. Because we use a gerund, an infinitive or a noun after using “prefer”. In this case, the first sentence has a gerund and the second sentece is using a noun.
