COMPARISON CONTRAST ESSAY GUIDELINES

Here I’m posting the guidelines for the essay you will be writing. The link below, shows examples.

http://www.eslbee.com/compcont.htm

As the examples provided are rather simple, which is ok as I expect it to be so for your easy understanding, I have also provided an example of what I’d like you to do. Notice I first introduce the topic. Then I expose the criteria I will use for the comparison contrast and finally, I state my thesis.

COMPARISON CONTRAST ESSAY INTRODUCTION.

When I saw “Avatar” directed by James Cameron, I couldn’t but feel startled by the many similarities there are between this movie and Disney’s “Pocahontas”. Obviously, the theme is the same, a conqueror who falls in love with one of the conquered and finds himself in the middle of a conflict of his loyalties. Motivations are also a similar feature in both stories. And the last one is the ecological message conveyed between lines. However, there are a few differences for example in the setting which is a distant planet in “Avatar” and a New World in “Pocahontas”; another difference is the way stories end and the last one how some characters are portrayed. In this essay, I’ll compare and contrast these two movies based on the theme, the motivations, the ecological message, the setting, some of the characters and the endings.
